The castle „Herbstenburg“ is a raised hide in Toblach, which is built upon a medieval tower.
In 1500 the brothers Herbst bought the medieval fortified tower. For some time they used the castle as a tribunal. An underground corridor connected the „Roter Turm“ (red tower) and the raised hide. In the basement vault were the prisons.
Imperator „Kaiser Maximilian I“ was in the castle too. From there he commanded the „Reichstag“ in Augsburg.
Unfortunately it is not possible to visit the inside of the castle because it is in private propriety of a noble family.
